STATE COLLEGE, PA—Pennsylvania Treasurer and Republican candidate for governor Stacy Garrity visited the Berkey Creamery during her final tour of the state before the upcoming midterm elections, which are to be held on Nov. 3, 2026. The event was hosted by the Penn State College Republicans on Sunday.
After fighting for her country through Operation Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom—as well as her many years in the private sector—Garrity has committed herself to public service. Elected as Pennsylvania’s Treasurer in 2020, Garrity is now running for Governor of Pennsylvania against incumbent Josh Shapiro.
Garrity arrived at Berkey Creamery with her running mate, Republican lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Jason Richey, to engage with the college community and discuss the importance of the race for the governor’s seat. A major topic of discussion was the agricultural sector and farmers’ rights.
“Agriculture is the backbone of the nation, and food security is national security,” said Garrity. “Where I live in Bradford County, we have 1,300 family farms, and it’s so hard right now for a farmer to be able to hand down his farm to the next generation, and we have to make that easier.”
As food prices rise, Garrity expressed her commitment to expanding the essential sector and supporting the farmers of Pennsylvania. “We could actually build a fertilizer plant in Central Pennsylvania. That would reduce costs—significantly—and then whatever’s left over, we could export.”
Garrity voiced her support for providing fresh food boxes to SNAP recipients, stating that nearly one in five residents of Philadelphia live in poverty, an issue she plans to correct when in office.
Penn State College Republicans President Tristin Kilgore attended the event as well. “I believe that it is crucial that students have the opportunity to meet and speak with Treasurer Garrity,” said Kilgore. “It’s a real privilege for young people to learn more about their public officials personally.”
For many students, the growing cost of college tuition has become a serious burden. During her tenure as Treasurer, Garrity fought against the rising price of a college degree.
“I’ve reduced fees in our 529 College-and-Career savings plan by $29 million, and we’re gold-rated—you can’t get higher than a gold,” said Garrity. Further, Garrity noted how the Treasury has been one of her greatest accomplishments: “We’ve been able to break every single record.”
With Election Day nearing, the outcome of an essential election rests in the hands of Pennsylvanians. Garrity and her team have worked to distribute campaign literature and spread voter awareness, affirming that she will remain on the campaign trail until the last minute. “We’re leaving it all on the field,” she said.
As the event came to a close, Garrity was asked for her favorite flavor of Penn State’s famous Creamery ice cream; she replied, “Oh, Death by Chocolate, 100 percent!”
